What an invoice in Ireland shows.

  • The date it is issued, and a number in a sequence
  • Your full name, address and VAT registration number
  • Your customer’s full name and address
  • What was supplied, how much of it, and the date it was supplied
  • The price of each line before VAT, and any discount
  • The VAT rate on each line, and the VAT at each rate
  • Under the reverse charge, the sentence that says so and your customer’s VAT number, with no VAT charged

For building and renovation.

  • RCT is taken from the gross payment before VAT. When RCT is deducted, the principal contractor gives you a copy of Revenue’s deduction authorisation or its details.
  • Under the Construction Contracts Act 2013, a payment claim notice states the amount claimed, the stage or period it covers, what it is for and how the amount was calculated.
  • Building work for a householder is 13.5%. When the materials cost you over two-thirds of the price before VAT, the whole supply is 23%, and an invoice from the office names the two-thirds rule.

Sent from the office, paid online.

Invoices go out by email in your business’s name with the PDF. They are paid by card or bank transfer, and overdue ones are chased.
