  • The time of supply, and the date it is issued if different
  • Your name, address and VAT registration number
  • Your customer’s name and address
  • A description of each item, its quantity, its price before VAT and its VAT rate
  • The total before VAT, any discount, and the total VAT
  • Under the domestic reverse charge, that it applies and the VAT your customer accounts for

For fire safety.

  • Most fire alarm, emergency lighting and extinguisher work is standard rated at 20%. Fitting a fire alarm in a new home as it is built is zero rated.
  • HMRC treats a fire alarm that only gives a warning as outside CIS. Sprinklers, automatic door closers and detection that sets them off are inside it (CISR14160).
  • BS 5306-3 asks for a basic service on every extinguisher each year. The invoice usually lists the units serviced, with refills and new extinguishers on lines of their own.

Invoices go out by email in your business’s name with the PDF. They are paid by card or bank transfer, and overdue ones are chased.
