What an invoice in the United Kingdom shows.

  • A unique number that follows on from the last
  • The time of supply, and the date it is issued if different
  • Your name, address and VAT registration number
  • Your customer’s name and address
  • A description of each item, its quantity, its price before VAT and its VAT rate
  • The total before VAT, any discount, and the total VAT
  • Under the domestic reverse charge, that it applies and the VAT your customer accounts for

For handyman.

  • Putting up blinds, curtains and their fittings, or mending a building’s pipes or wiring on its own, is outside CIS. Repairs to the building and decorating done for a contractor are inside it.
  • An invoice from the office to a letting agent prints the house the work was at, apart from the agent’s own address.
