Questions, answered.

Is a floating floor at 13.5% like a fixed one?
No. Revenue lists a floating wood floor as a fitting, at 23% supplied, fitted or both, and a carpet not stuck down all over is 23% too. The office does not know which floors are fixed. From a VAT-registered firm, a line’s Supply rate can put the whole floor at 23%, and a kind of work can carry that rate for every job of its kind. One line alone can be set Separate, standard rate.
Is carpet laid on a new build or refurbishment RCT work?
Yes. Where a building is being built or refurbished, Revenue counts laying carpets among the work that renders it complete, which is a construction operation. Outside that context, such finishing work is not necessarily one, Revenue says.
Can the stairs be quoted as an option?
Yes. The stairs, or new door bars, can each be an Optional extra on the quote, left out of its total unless the customer takes it.
